The We-Wu for April 13-24, 2026

I wish I could stretch like a cat and have it just cure everything that aches. And maybe bare some fangs and hiss while I’m at it.

I am very tired. And my back hurts a lot. I didn’t want to take a muscle relaxant earlier in the week because it makes me so sleepy, and I needed to be fully aware of all the stuff.

What stuff, you ask?

Well, it is once again the week of the Church Multiplication Conference. Or was, I guess. Time is going to be a bit fuzzy for a while, I think. And I’m sure it will take me more than a minute to remember what my regular job is.

We can start with last week. I was hoping to have more time to help prepare for the conference, but there was a last-minute dog-sitting gig downtown. Before that, though, I did what I could (with what people had turned in on time). I also updated the Swahili coaching and implementation manuals, the Chichewa coaching and implementation manuals, and started on updating the Kiluba Camel Method document. That one is huge, so I didn’t finish it last week. It has been staring at me the few times I’ve actually sat at my computer this week.

Working remotely, I was able to get some editing and proofreading done on the Phase 2 weekly guide. I still have a long way to go on that. I also commuted to the office one day to do some work for the conference. We had to mark out camera angles because we were streaming the general sessions, but we also work with a lot of people who could have security concerns if their face appeared.

I spent Sunday afternoon downloading powerpoints and murdering a small forest printing all of the presentations. My mom came down to help for a few days, which was lovely. Especially because she was scheduled to have hand surgery on Thursday (it went well and she’s recovering nicely).

Then it was early to bed Sunday night. Not that I slept much - Monday was our most complicated tech day, so I kept running through everything in my head. (Oh, right - I oversaw the tech for the week. I had a great team helping me because it’s really hard to be in three places at one time during workshops.)

The basic format each day was a time of opening worship, a general session that included a panel discussion, church multiplication facilitator reports, and workshops.

The panels were somewhat new this year, and Monday was the hardest because everyone on the panel was on Zoom. (We were originally going to have some people in the room and some people on Zoom, and that was just going to be a nightmare, so we made the one person who was actually here go on Zoom in another room.) Thankfully, the Internet held out and everyone was able to log on, but it was more than a little stressful for me.

Comparatively, the rest of the conference was relatively easy. But there was a lot of running around, and I had three different computer setups to navigate. I did get to spend some time with the people who came in for the conference, though, and I also got to go to all of the CMF reports, which is always a highlight.

I’m looking forward to sleeping as much as possible this weekend, though.

I’ll have more detail in the future, I’m sure. My next few prayer letters will definitely make use of what I heard and learned over the last week. For now, I think that will do it. Now I need to take care of some small stuff and collapse a little bit.

Bye!
