Stream of Consciousness: The We-Wu for April 6-10,2026
I’m going to get political again. Briefly. But I feel compelled to inform you of one of my remaining joys in life.
I take great pleasure in voting for proposals in shareholder meetings that the board has advised voting against.
THIS IS NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE. BUT…
I use the Stash app to dabble in the stock market. (You can click here - totally voluntary - to get both of us $30 when you create an account and start investing.) It’s not a lot, but I find it fascinating to witness the absolute insanity of the process. One of the perks (some may define it otherwise) is that I get to vote as a shareholder. Granted, most of my holdings are .00314 of a full share. But I still get to see the board members and proposals before various companies. I usually have three options - for, against, and abstain. Do I always research the board members? No. Very rarely. Sometimes I recognize names, but generally, I don’t really care about that portion of the voting form. What I find incredibly fascinating (other than the fact that apparently only three companies are allowed to act as independent auditors) are the shareholder proposals.
These run the gamut. A few years ago, there weren’t a lot - mostly about compensation. But more recently, there are more - a lot more. And they are fascinating.
Because most of them have to do with ‘woke’ stuff.
By woke, I generally mean progressive, social justice, equity, identity politics crap. Things that don’t necessarily make sense in a corporate environment. Like, it’s fine to think about a company’s impact on the environment. But does every company need to have a statement about global warming? Do I need to know their stance on Black Lives Matter?
No.
But it turns out that those policies and statements aren’t necessarily good for business. And most of the shareholder requests are now about reviewing those policies. In the voting things I get, I get a list of proposals and questions, and there are a ton now about reevaluating the efficacy of certain ‘wokeisms.’ The board, of course, has to put in a little nudge one way or the other. When it comes to approving board members and compensation, they always suggest voting for the proposal. When it comes to anything shareholders want, they always suggest voting against it.
Shocker.
So, yeah. One of my small pleasures right now is clicking For when the board wants me to click literally anything else.
Did you care about any of that? Probably not. But it was on my mind since we’re coming to the end of the fiscal year.
Another thing that brings me small joys is seeing the AI transcript of a Zoom call. I’ve had some bangers, lately.
Okay, yes. All of these did come from the same Zoom meeting where we were testing settings for the upcoming Church Multiplication Conference. Fun times! (I’m Not Sarah B. Yes, the first one was said by me. And the last one.)
The CMC is taking up most of my time right now. It’s in two weeks, and we had a recent incident that added a lot of extra pressure to those of us in charge of things. I’m running tech as I usually do. I have a team of volunteers helping me, for which I am extremely thankful. I’m not gonna lie, the CMC is normally a stressful time, but this year is especially taxing. I can usually schedule things so that I can take a break from my regular work the week before and the week of, and I always leave myself a window without any dog sitting. Except my client got the dates wrong, and instead of dog sitting this week, like I planned, I’m dog sitting next week. There’s going to be a lot of driving back and forth from Greenwood to Indy’s north side, and this is definitely not the time for using gas. Plus, I can’t really take time away from my normal work because we’re still in the transition period of me taking on more of the supervisory role, and I have seven people waiting on me to give them jobs to do.
Cue the ‘This is fine’ meme.
Well, it will be fine. Probably. It will be what it will be, at least. We take it one day at a time.
Anyway, I’m still doing a lot of editing of Phase 1 and Phase 2 documents. I never cease to be amazed at the sheer amount of content that goes into Village Church Planting curriculum. I’m just waiting to find out there’s a whole other segment of it I never knew about. I have nightmares about this.
Still fine.
I think that’s about it for me this week. I am yawning like a fiend. I’m gonna do some small stuff this weekend. Maybe big stuff. Maybe just a nap.
Bye!
