The Sky Is Yellow: The We-Wu for June 22 - July 17, 2026

I love contacting my local government and being told that I have to fill out a form, which they helpfully provide a link to, only to click on the link and get this:

Yay.

To be fair, I did get a timely response telling me that they were the wrong person to talk to. Unlike the time I filled out the form to contact my congressman and it took him a month to respond with information I already had.

Anyway.

I have been terrible at keeping you all updated on the incredibly fascinating goings on and adventures at One Mission Society. Let’s rectify that.

On our last episode, we were just starting the World Cup while preparing for People Week on steroids (as in, the week is on steroids, not that I was taking steroids). I had just finished my work on the weekly guide, and I had left you with a hint about a surprise for the 125th. Let’s start there.

Many moons ago, I was inquiring about some of the planning for the 125th celebration, particularly the amount of interaction. I don’t know about you, but around here, if you suggest something or ask about something, chances are incredibly high that you will then be tasked with carrying out that suggestion or pulled into the planning process. I was well aware of this when I made my inquiries, but I felt that my idea was decent enough (and that I could actually accomplish it) to warrant broaching the subject.

My suggestion was to create a scavenger hunt of sorts to give people a more focused reason to pay attention to the sessions and speakers at the event. I thought there were a lot of passive activities, but not necessarily something that engaged the brain. (Does this sound like hubris? I don’t mean it to.) Anyway, they liked my suggestion, so I put together a list of trivia things to discover.

How many would you get right?

Overall, I think the celebration went well. My parents were able to attend, which was fun, and I saw many people I haven’t seen in a long time. Part of the usual People Week is a picnic, which we had at the house across the street that we bought earlier this year. (Have I talked about that yet? If I haven’t, let me know.) My introvert self stuck to the corner, which was great. There was supposed to be a dessert get together on the Sunday after the celebration, but after my parents left, I laid down and took a very long nap.

Then it was back to work. I published a group of booklets in Chinese, prepared files for translators and our VCP authors, worked my way through a build up of emails, had lots of meetings, put together Amharic transfiles, set up a new language project (guess the language), finalized the work flow of VCP, and worked out the full scope of translating both T&M and VCP. Oh, and I led worship with our intern (I literally sang with Joy) for a training event this morning.

Personally, I hung out with cats and dogs, had an intensely painful muscle cramp in my leg, went to a conference about C.S. Lewis, watched Young Washington (A- for entertainment, C+ for historical accuracy), celebrated National Fry Day, played a fun new literary game, and had a few meals with some of my favorite people.

I’m tired, boss.

I owe you much more than this, but we should be back on a regular posting schedule for a while. Are you keeping up with your small stuff?

Bye!
