Kim Jong Un TVs: The We-Wu for August 10-14, 2026

Virtually none of this week went the way I expected or planned.

Honestly, I could just end it there. That sums things up nicely for the week in review.

Alas, you will have to put up with my ramblings for a tad longer.

I started the week still with the dogs, doing my zoom meetings remotely. That was fine, though I expected there to be more rain here. Don’t get me wrong, I’m quite happy we didn’t get more rain. I have no desire to be like New Castle or Cambridge City. But it was really hot, and I kinda wanted the rain to dissipate all of the humidity. Which it did. Just later.

On Tuesday, I had another dentist appointment to take care of a cavity. Yes, I had a cavity, to my great shame. It was actually a pretty chill appointment. My dentist told me that I am the perfect patient because I only move when they tell me to. I didn’t tell her that it took me a long time to achieve such zen. Also, I think fillings have come a long way since the old days. I remember when it was a very traumatic experience with all of the drilling and the shots and the grittiness. Of course, I do go to Gentle Dentist, so maybe that explains the difference.

(I had to go back to the dentist on Wednesday to get a bite adjustment. There was a little peak that was sticking up, and it was very distracting. It is a little weird to me that they tell me to stop grinding my teeth and then just go in and file one down, but what do I know?)

On Wednesday, we had a lovely chapel celebrating my dear friend Beth. She came in the year after I did, and she took my job when I left Communications. We get mistaken for one another a lot, which is truly an honor. She lets me hang out with her cats, too.

I had intended to take the rest of Wednesday to do some maintenance on the server where we store our published files. I have been negligent in uploading things that we publish because it’s a bit of a tedious and annoying process, and I was always doing other things with higher priority. But it had gotten to a somewhat ridiculous level, so I said:

So that’s what I started doing. First, I had to download the published files off of our FTP server, which meant figuring out which ones I didn’t have already.

Check.

Then I had to upload them to the ECC Share Drive so that I could update booklet titles and make a list of things that needed to be transferred from there to the server.

Just kidding!

The network isn’t networking. Okay. Let’s do a restart.

And hey, my new laptop has been sitting on my desk for a couple of weeks now. Maybe I should start setting that up.

I have to plug it in first. (I mentioned the part where it had been sitting on my desk, right?) All good. Charging up. Old computer is still booting. I do some other maintenance things that I can accomplish on my phone. I take a couple of calls. Finally, the old computer gets fully booted. (No, it should not take that long. Yes, this is foreshadowing.)

I continue with my maintenance. Moving files.

Oh, good.

It’s not an Internet problem. There are some sites I can open and some sites I can’t. Teams doesn’t work, but Outlook does. It’s weird.Maybe it has to do with the power outage on Tuesday?

(Did I mention we had a power outage on Tuesday? After my dentist appointment, I came to the office to find darkness and abandonment. I also found Outreach articles that needed to be proofed. So I went home and fired up my battery-operated lamp because home was also without power, and I edited articles.)

So I call up IT. And I do more work on the new computer.

By this time, the day is pretty much over. So I go home. We haven’t solved the issue, but I’m hoping a little time and maybe another restart will solve the problem. And I’m really hoping that it’s a problem with the wiring in the wall and not the wiring in the computer.

Thursday. Yay, things are working! Let’s keep ‘er moving.

Head, meet desk.

IT comes back down. They test all the wires. I now have a list of things that I need for my new MAC. (Also, can we talk about the USB issue? I thought we had all decided on the big ones. Why are they small now? Why do I have to buy an adapter to make the big USB fit into the small USB? Why, when everything requires a USB these days, do you only put one or two slots for a USB on your device?!) But we’re making progress. Some things are easily able to be downloaded. And I keep an excellent backup of my computer, so I can move files easily. But I went from two large screens to one small screen, and it’s throwing me off.

Oh, and it turns out we’re adding more things to the document we’ve already revised twice. Because why not?!

Lamentably, the old computer does not seem to be fixable at this point. Or at least there’s no point in fixing it when I already have the new one that I can do at least some things on. It’s just annoying. I wanted to do things on my own timetable.

There’s probably a lesson somewhere in there.

Anyway, I’m sure I’m forgetting a lot of things that happened this week. I was very frazzled. And now my back is hurting because it decided that now is a great time to spasm. Here’s hoping that next week is more profitable.

Why do I hear sirens in the distance?

Bye!
